Autism is not difficult to identify…

A normal and full of life baby one day, a disconnected, sick, scared, and angry stranger the other day.

What happened? Toxins overdose, inflammation, deficient immunity and one diagnosis: autism.

Your baby is not who you thought he would be anymore, but he is still your baby and you need to learn everything that can help him to function in this world and improve his general well-being, from within, thanks to an adapted diet.

 

Diet and autism

The link between diet and autism is not new. It was established in the 1940’s by an american physician and research have been ongoing ever since, connecting certain food with autism-related behavior.

Even though it cannot really be classified as food per say, sugar is one that alters children’s behavior.

Dr Jacob Teitelbaum, « Maitriser laddiction au sucre maintenant, pour les enfants » author says that “even though research demonstrating that a better diet helps or prevents autistic children’s behavior, attention and language do not exist yet, clinical trials strongly suggest it”.  

Most of the parents of autistic children know it: autism is part of a general unbalance of the body and the brain, that affects the chemical reactions of the body (not a psychiatric disease…)

Since digestion impacts the brain and physical symptoms on autistic children (the older too), what they eat or not can make a big difference.

 

Gut health comes first

Intestines inflammation, gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea, constipation, bloating, stomach pain are provoked by food sensitivity and fungal infections that autistic children suffer from.

But there is also internal toxicity provoked by environmental and food toxins (from heavy metals and additives), as these children’s cells cleaning system is deficient.

As soon as toxins accumulate and enter the brain, they interfere with the connectivity of neurotransmitters and trigger :

  • fear,
  • irritability, temper
  • agressivity,
  • depression
  • and sleeping problems

Most of all, this toxicity can damage brain cells and the wall of the colon.colon

Indeed, as soon as there is an excessive intake of sugar with a disturbed digestive system, candida albicans (parasite yeast) abnormally spreads and provokes what is called colon permeability.

Because of this permeability – these “holes” in the colon mucus membrane-, big non-digested proteins get through blood circulation, monopolizing the immune system, identifying them as invaders to fight. That’s how the allergies begin.

Dr Teitelbaum adds that milks often causes an immune reaction in the colon, or even a lactose intolerance, leading to the appearance of symptoms of digestive imbalance where the inflammation sits, inflammation that can then appear anywhere as a respiratory infection, and very often, as an ear infection.

These infections will be treated with antibiotics which won’t be useful on the long run as long as milk remains part of the diet, and will be taken as often as these incurable ear infections appear.

It is hard to go through repeated ear infections, but what needs to be considered, beyond the pain, is the damage caused by excessive intake of antibiotics – as they’re the one that stimulate excessive growth of candida, autism toxin.

In excessive number, this yeast weakens immunity, maintains body inflammation , allergic reactions and increases toxic waste that damages the brain.

It is the vicious circle ear infection-antibiotic-candida-ear infection that is completely maintained with medicine.

The smart thing to do is to break this vicious circle that maintains autism on the cellular level, to restore body’s biochemical functions, and so its balance.

And for this, diet makes a whole difference.

The main undesirable substances that maintain autism symptoms are sugar, wheat and casein.

 

I say “main” because you need to consider the food to which the child is sensitive to, and it will need to be identified in order to remove it from the diet. Indeed, autism specialists found out that incomplete digestion of certain food “creates opioids in the brain, which of course leads to an addiction to this type of food, but mostly, provokes hallucinations, mood swings and unbalanced behavior on autistic people”.

 

The changes, in practice

Autistic people have an unbalanced sensorial perception that affects the nervous system and the brain.

They are quickly overwhelmed by what they feel.

Changes could seem intimidating, even impossible for the parents…so you need to proceed in a specific way.

An autism specialist will suggest you to start by writing a diet journal for the child. Determine the main deficiencies, what should be removed and what should be added in priority.

Before anything else, eliminate sugar!donuts

One sugar cube can be just enough to make an autistic child bounce against the walls or run without a stop!

Dr Teitelbaum explains that even though it could be hard at first, removing sugar from the diet allows to quickly eliminate aggressive behavior and violence.

Removing this food consists in following an anti-fungal (anti-candida) diet and so initiating the anti-inflammation and repair process of the whole body, provided that you eliminate as well reactive food, source of food sensibility.

This food is most of the time dairy -because of its casein content from milk-, soy, corn and eggs.

 

What do we eat, then?

The important thing is for the child to be fed. He needs to take vitamins and minerals supplements, for which he usually is deficient.

But removing the most toxic foods gives very quick results, provided that the child manages to make it through a few days without it, and that you manage to have him taking the good sources of fat (flax, sardines, nuts, avocado) – which will fight his gut inflammation-, give him probiotics like kefir, goat or yogurt, food rich in soluble fibers like asparagus, beans, garlic and onion.

Then, you need to break the vicious circle of candida growth, by removing any sugar or processed food and favoring anti-fungus food such as Cayenne pepper, lemons, almonds, coconut, seaweed and green vegetables.

To go that far, you need to win the child’s approval as much as possible…he’s suffering and you’re making him expect even more pain… But he can also want to feel better…and you can help him feel better thanks to essential oils. Autism and aromatherapy

Not every autistic children like to be touched or massaged.

This is a blend of essential oils (for 2 year-old and older) that acts on acceptance, transition, inflammation, immunity, candida, sleep and anger.

Pour in 10 ml (2 tbsp) of St-Johns-wort base oil :

  • 1 drop of peppermint essential oil (mentha piperita)
  • 2 drops of marjoram essential oil (origanum majorama)
  • 3 drops of lavender essential oil (angustifolia)
  • 3 drops of frankincense essential oil (boswellia carteri)
  • 2 drops of thyme essential oil (thymus vulgaris)

Use a few drops of this blend to massage the feet, hands, forearms, back, neck, according to the tolerance of the child and his acceptance of touch, at least twice a day, and as many times as he would allow you to.

If massaging is not possible, maybe he will let you apply a drop of essential oil on the wrist, where there is a lot of vascularization.

That way, you can “perfuse” the non-diluted oils of this blend, one by one regularly throughout the day, waiting a few minutes between each oil application to avoid irritating the skin.
