Travel safely with three essential oils
When you go away from home, whether it is at the resort nearby or deep in the Amazon, you are getting out of your comfort zone and can not access as easily ( or even at all) the usual source of relief (a pharmacy?) you are used to.
Anything can happen … you know it.
For an adult , the risk of discomfort, illness, injury already exists, but when one or more children are part of the journey, this is another story, much less easy to control.
To prepare for any eventuality, you will have to get equipped , which means to bring a pharmacy case loaded with antiseptic , anti -inflammatory, analgesic , maybe antibiotics and a venom pump !
The fact is that anything can happen to us: when I asked my group of students what they feared catching during a trip they told me dysentery, uncontrollable vomiting , various pain from headache to sprain or lumbago , viral or bacterial skin infections but also respiratory and urinary tract infections , excluding the many insect bites and fungal infections that may strike anywhere …
Fortunately, three essential oils are all you need.
Indeed, three essential oils in your pocket can be enough to travel far in exotic countries , savannah, jungle, desert, rainforest ( and so on) without carrying two kilos of drugs in your back pack.
I present you: peppermint, cinnamon and spike lavender.
They replace analgesics, anti -inflammatories, anesthetics, bactericidal, virucidal, antifungal, anti- emetics, analgesics, healing, mucolytic and antivirals.
Tested and used on me and my family, my clients and occasionally on an airplane passenger in agony (no doctor available…), over a second-degree burn that has left no trace and food poisoning cured within 24hrs … What could be better ?
And yes, this is a wonderful illustration of how essential oils can help” save your life” in vacation, (and, eventually, at home!).
Three mandatory essential oils
Here is a quick presentation of the oils properties. How to use them will follow.
- Peppermint (mentha piperita): This oil is a major analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anesthetic, bactericidal, viricide, fungicidal, anti-emetic.
Remember it as a major pain killer for migraines, headaches, physical shock, muscle and joint pain, lumbago, bruises and shingles
But it is also a very good liver decongestant , that helps on : Digestion, intestinal flu, nausea, vomiting, motion sickness, stomach ulcer, pancreatic insufficiency.
- Spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia): analgesic, anti-inflammatory, regenerating powerful skin viricide bactericidal for Staphylococcus aureus, fungicide, healing, mucolytic.
This is the best for Burns, wounds, skin infections, dermatitis, skin fungus and gynecology, acne, Insect bites, itching.
But it is also a good tool in case of flu, sinusitis , rhinitis, bronchitis, tonsillitis, tracheitis,
- Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia) : antiviral, antifungal, antiparasitic, anti -inflammatory antiseptic, anesthetic, expectorant.
This large spectrum antibacterial is a powerful tool in case of stomach flu , diarrhea, dysanterie , infectious and spasmodic enterocolitis , typhoid fever, amoebiasis , enterotoxaemia , tropical fevers and infections , parasitosis , urogenital infections , bronchitis, upper respiratory tract infections .

Traveling with essential oils: user’s manual
I’ll share with you a magic blend: the mixture of essential oils you will use for an emergency local massage. This is simply two drops of each essential oil (peppermint, spike and cinnamon) in one teaspoon of base oil .
Operating in any case, this blend of essential oils can be used as such or enriched depending on the symptoms and characteristics of oils.
Let me explain.
Simply pour a few drops of the blend in one hand and massage various strategic spots such as:
- the feet (insist well on the soles, on the kick, around the ankle , and lift each side of the calves).
- Also massage the hands and forearms thoroughly, with ascendant and energetic movements.
A few applications :
- In case of respiratory infection , massage the throat, neck , upper back .
- In case of lethargy , vigorously rub on each side of the spinal column , just above the waist , to stimulate the adrenal glands .
- In case of abdominal pain , stress on the hands and forearms , but also massage the lower back .
So, for example, in case of stomach flu , one or two drops of Cinnamon essential oil can be added to the basic mixture.
In case of cold and sore throat, simply add a few drops of spike lavender to the mix, but you may also use the power of a few drops undiluted
For muscle pain or trauma , add the essential oil of peppermint oil to the mixture to rub it around the painful area. To achieve the painful area directly , it is best to apply essential oils diluted in aloe gel , a thick layer without massage ( sprains, fractures) .
In case of bruises , just dropping drops of essential peppermint oil where it hurts.
In case of second-degree burn : first cool off the wound under cold water 10 minutes. Then let fall down a few drops of lavender essential oil directly on the burn and if you have, spread on top a nice coat natural aloe gel. Keep the wound in a cool environment. Add on gel and lavender as often as desired to fight pain.
If water is not available , spread the aloe gel as soon as possible on the burn and there dropping drops of lavender (which doesn’t always need to be diluted).
Regarding dilution, it is important to stress that Cinnamon Essential oil MUST be diluted before applying it anywhere.
